Business Support Scheme

I.T. Works is accredited by the Department of Trade and Industry to provide e-commerce solutions that may be eligible for a subsidy.

If you are eligible for support from the DTI, you will have to pay, from your own resources, one half of the agreed costs of any subsequent consultancy. The DTI will pay the other half up to a maximum of £4,500 + VAT.

Introduction to Scheme

The Isle of Man Government's Advisory Service was established in 1992. Since that time over 150 Companies have been assisted under this service. The Advisory service provided expert Consultancy, initially in Quality Standards such as BS5750 and latterly in business disciplines such as Business Planning, Marketing, Financial Management Controls and Training and Development.

This newly revised Business Support Scheme introduced in May 2004 expands and improves on the old Advisory Service to cover ten key disciplines that cover all aspects of business.
These are:

  • Marketing
  • Design
  • E-Business
  • Environmental Efficiency
  • Human Resources Development
  • Quality
  • Operations Management
  • Business and Strategic Planning
  • Information Communication Technology/ Information Systems
  • Business & Financial Management Controls

Each BSS project delivers a complete business solution in any of the business disciplines above.
How does the Business Support Initiative work?

Once you have applied for assistance under the BSS the Scheme Manager will arrange for a Business Development Consultant (BDC) to visit you to carry out a free of charge strategic reveiw of your business. This review will be made available to you in the form of a report, which is yours to keep.

As the consultant we will then work with you in order to formulate a detailed project, and to produce an agreed Terms of Reference. The Terms of Reference will contain a detailed programme of work together with a work schedule against which the project can be monitored.

The BSS Manager will approve the terms of reference, oversee the project and be available to help at all times.

Once complete the DTI will pay 50% of the cost of the project to a maximum of £4500 assistance. You will pay the other 50%. No payment will be made until you are satisfied with the work carried out.
